Learnt to fly in 1936 at Airwork Reserve Training School, Perth Australia.     
     
Flew solo after 13hrs 50 minutes. In May 1936 joined 'D' flight of No.2 FTS flying Hawker Harts, joined 'A' flight of No.2 A.T.S  
     
     
     
             
in September 1936. Posted to No.38 (B) squadron January 10th 1937, assessed as "average". Qualified as a 1st pilot
day & night on Hendon's in November 1937.    
     
Attached to 39 school of Air Navigation, RAF Manston during March 1938, completed course in May assessed  as "above average"
     
Acting Squadron leader Oldbury was posted to No.620 squadron RAF Chedburgh via No.1651 Con.Unit w.e.f July 9th 1943. 
Posted to No.218 Squadron, w.e.f 27th July 1943. Rank on departure recorded as Wing Commander. Completed one operation 
with No.620 Squadron on July 25th when successfully carried out a minelaying trip to the Frisian islands. 
       
On conclusion to his command of No.218 Squadron he was posted to HQ Bomber Command. Retired from the RAF with the 
rank of Group Captain.
